POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION

Want to share your love of paddling and inspire others? Get paid to lead children and adults to adventure in a flexible position that can be scheduled around you! Howard County Recreation and Parks is seeking part-time canoe/kayak instructors to lead paddling classes and trips with seasonal programs and summer camps. Preferred applicants have previous experience with leading both flatwater and river paddling activities in a work or volunteer setting, teaching technique, flexibility, patience and a positive attitude. The instructor will perform instruction, coordination and supervision of duties during canoe/kayak classes and river trips for the Adventure, Nature and Outdoor unit, including driving a County vehicle with trailer to river locations around Maryland.

This is the perfect part time job for someone who has a flexible schedule and looking for some extra income. Applicants must be at least 21 yrs old and possess a clean driving record. CPR/First Aid certification and previous experience driving with a trailer preferred.

This is a part time position with evening and weekend hours (time varies) with a very flexible schedule. Classes and programs are held at Howard County Recreation and Park facilities and parks and various regional paddling locations. Reliable transportation is important.
 
RATE OF PAY:  Salary commensurate with experience and certification(s).                                
Contingent:       Level I -  Minimum Wage - $18.00 (Paraprofessional)
                           Level II - $18.00-$22.00 (Paraprofessional)
                           Level III - $20.00 - $32.00 (Professional)

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Level I - Includes experience and specialized education and training or certification in skill area.
Level II - Includes two (2) years of professional experience and specialized education and training in specialized field or college graduate with two (2) years of experience. 
Level III - Includes five (5) years of professional experience and specialized education and training in specialized field or college graduate with three (3) years of experience.
