The Cruise Director is considered the "Host" of the ship and their main responsibility is to ensure guest satisfaction and provide the best cruise experience possible for our guests. Responsible for the overall comfort, enjoyment, and fun of the guests.

Responsibility and Authority

  • Guest Experience
    • Meets and exceeds guest expectations and ensures complete guest satisfaction;
    • Socializes with guests
    • Demonstrates genuine concern for guests’ wellbeing at all times;
    • Proactive approach to problem solving;
  • Operational and Administrative
    • Responsible for scheduling and maintaining the quality of all shows as well as all onboard activities, special events and entertainment staff.
    • Responsible for scheduling all shows, activities and special events for each cruise. Other scheduling duties include the scheduling of all bands and musicians and developing and scheduling a “movie rotation” for the onboard movies.
    • Responsible for any announcements that need to be made. This could range anywhere from the morning clearance announcement to an activity promotion to a crew or guest safety drill.
    • The Cruise director is required to create and produce a daily television show that is run on the onboard stateroom televisions. This purpose of this show is to provide to our guest pertinent information about daily activities and entertainment, information on the ports of call, safety issues and special information that will help in assuring that our guests have a great cruise experience.
    • The Cruise Director is considered the “Host” of the ship. Being the Host requires constant attention to the guests and calls for such duties as the hosting of tables, leading such activities such as “Service Club and “Veteran” meetings and wishing the guests “farewell” at the gangway on disembarkation morning.
    • Leads Sunday services if a priest is on board;
    • Other Duties include but are not limited too:
      • Attending General Manager and Captain’s Meeting’s
      • Hosting the Shows
      • Developing and implementing Special Events and Activities
      • Working together with Department Heads
      • Being the eyes and ears of the Director of Entertainment in the corporate office
      • Having “Fun” and creating a fun atmosphere
    • Performs all other duties as requested by supervisor or as listed in SOP Manual – Front Office

    • Certifies departmental staff for signature service training
    • Trains, coaches and leads crew to consistently superior levels of performance
    • Communicates standards of performance to employees
    • Ensures adherence to the company defined appraisal system
    • Creates and maintains a positive work environment

    • Fosters teamwork within all departments onboard
    • Promotes, participates in and actively suggests enhancements of the Signature Service program
    • Incorporates Signature Service standards of behavior in daily work in the areas of:

      • Completing guests requests and needs
      • Handling guest challenges
      • Improving the guest experience
  • Social
    • Maintains positive relationships with guests and colleagues
    • Respects the privacy and rights of colleagues

  • Safety
    • Monitor the practical application of the Company's policy, procedures and instructions.
    • Immediately report to the Master any instances where the vessel is unable or fails to comply with any Company’s policy, procedure, instruction, and any safety, environmental, or security requirement.
    • Participate in the Fire Safety Inspection, as described.
    • Ensure storage areas under his/her responsibility are maintained as described.
    • Member of the Shipboard Senior Management Meeting, as described.
    • Ensure proper Crew Training on the Job for the Hotel personnel, as described.
    • Prepare a handover report prior to leaving the vessel as described.
    • Participate in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions from ship’s command;
    • Complies with company safety and pollution prevention regulations;

Education and Experience

  • Systems
    • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Previous Cruise Ship or Resort Staff Management experience required
  • Live entertainment operations
  • College degree suggested, but not required
  • Musical, Theatre background with strong sight reading and harmonizing skills;
  • Respectful, energetic and resourceful;
  • Understanding of the highest level of service;
  • Excellent administrative skills;
  • Strong leadership skills and practice "leadership by example";
  • Outgoing personality, open minded and flexible;
  • Ability to work in an international environment;
  • Ability to perform well under pressure;
  • Excellent appearance and excellent social skills;
  • Well organized;
