Mountain Recreation is seeking a knowledgeable and engaging Sound Bath Instructor to lead wellness-focused programs that promote relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well-being. This role is responsible for designing and facilitating sound bath sessions using instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs, and other therapeutic tools, while creating a calm, inclusive, and restorative environment for participants of all experience levels. Ideal candidates are passionate about holistic wellness, experienced in sound healing practices, and skilled at guiding individuals and groups through meditative experiences that support mental and physical health.

POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Fitness Instructor – Sound Bath Instructor

Location: Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)

Employment Type: Part-Time, Year Round

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)

Schedule: Varied, may include mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Facility Coordinator 

Supervision Exercised: None


Work Environment and Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, which may include standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing for extended periods. Duties require sustained mental focus, attention to detail, and visual awareness to safely guide participants through meditative experiences. Physical exertion includes setting up and moving sound instruments, arranging mats or seating, bending, lifting, and reaching. The role is performed in a wellness-focused, performance-type setting and can be moderately physically demanding. Constant use of the voice is required to lead sessions and provide instructions. Job stress may involve managing group dynamics, supporting participants with varying comfort levels, and maintaining a calm, focused environment during back-to-back sessions.

Salary: $25.00-$35.00/hour. Staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual skills upon passing a language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Statement of Duties: Develop and lead safe, engaging, and inclusive sound bath and wellness sessions that promote relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well-being. Guide participants through meditative experiences using sound healing instruments, provide clear instructions, and foster a calm, supportive environment that makes wellness accessible and restorative for everyone.


Examples of Duties:

  • Plan and lead sound bath and wellness sessions that promote relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well-being.
  • Provide clear instruction and guidance on sound bath techniques, breathing, and meditation practices to ensure participant comfort and safety.
  • Offer modifications, tips, and guidance to accommodate varying experience levels, abilities, and wellness goals.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants and create an inclusive, calm, and supportive environment.
  • Communicate with staff regarding session schedules, facility use, and participant feedback.
  • Maintain attendance records and any required program documentation.
  • Set up, take down, and properly store sound instruments, mats, and other session materials before and after classes.
  • Monitor and address facility safety, cleanliness, and equipment condition during sessions.
  • Support the inclusion of participants with diverse abilities and needs.
  • Respond appropriately to accidents or incidents according to established procedures.
  • Act as a mandatory reporter and comply with all reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of: 

  • Principles and techniques of sound healing, meditation, and relaxation, including proper use of instruments, pacing, and session flow.
  • Methods for creating safe and supportive environments, including setup, warm-up/settling practices, and participant guidance.
  • Strategies for adapting sound bath instruction to various experience levels, ages, and abilities.
  • Current best practices in wellness facilitation, group mindfulness instruction, and holistic programming.

Skills and abilities: 

  • Proficient in utilizing a variety of sound healing techniques, instruments, and session formats to meet the needs of diverse participants.
  • Able to communicate effectively with participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Strong planning, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains a calm, positive, and encouraging demeanor while leading sessions.
  • Capable of physically performing the duties associated with setting up, leading, and taking down sound bath programs.
  • Works cooperatively with others and fosters positive, constructive relationships with staff and participants.
  • Demonstrates competency in sound bath facilitation and effectively prepares and presents sessions to a variety of audiences.
  • Comfortable managing group dynamics, varying participant comfort levels, and session challenges while maintaining a safe, supportive, and restorative environment.
  • Able to respond appropriately to emergency situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants and staff.

Requirements:

Education and experience:

  • Minimum 18 years of age or older; AND
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent

Certifications:

  • Certification in group fitness instruction, personal training, or a related exercise/fitness program (preferred)
  • May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
