Job Title: Nature Day Camp Counselor

Work Environment: Indoor camp setting, outdoor nature setting. Landis Woods Park: 2369 Lititz Pike

Summary: Work with the Nature Day Camp Director and co-counselors to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the camp, as well as provide a fun, safe, and memorable camp experience. Working hours for this position will vary Monday-Friday between the hours of 6:45AM-6:15PM for the duration of the 10-week program (8-9-hour shift). Select mandatory training schedule will be provided by Recreation Department manager.

Essential Functions

  1. Plan and implement environmental education lessons alongside co-counselors.
  2. Provide a safe environment for all campers.
  3. Lead and assist in coordinating structured games, activities, and crafts.
  4. Keep track of supplies including sporting equipment, crafts, and board game pieces.
  5. Promote a positive outdoor experience.
  6. Supervise campers' daily activities.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to talk, hear, and see.
  2. Must be able to traverse park trails, with varying degrees of difficulty, at least 1.5 miles
  3. Able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently, with or without accommodation.
  4. Ability to supervise students in multiple environments including in nature on trails, fields, and woodlands.

Competencies

  1. Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
  2. Willingness to engage with parents and communicate about their child's growth and success.
  3. Knowledge of English word usage, spelling, and punctuation.

Skills

  1. Knowledge of various recreational games and activities.
  2. Good leadership, communication, and social skills.

Abilities

  1. Communicate effectively with participants and parents.
  2. Give clear and concise instructions.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. 1-year experience supervising children.
  3. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Enrolled in a secondary education program for Education, Park and Rec, or related field.
  2. 1-year supervising children.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must pass required State and Federal Background Checks
