Senior Engineer – eBike Motor Systems (Shenzhen, China)
We are seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to support the development of next‑generation e‑bike drive units. This hybrid position combines on‑site engineering support at our motor supplier (3 days/week) with market intelligence and supplier research across China (2 days/week).
Role Overview
In this role, you will act as the primary technical interface between our global engineering team and our drive‑unit manufacturing partner in China. You will support mechatronic design activities, oversee build quality, drive issue resolution, and ensure alignment between our requirements and supplier execution.
On non‑onsite days, you will scout new suppliers, analyze market and technology trends, and gather competitive insights to strengthen our future e‑bike electronics and system roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
On-Site at Supplier (3 days/week)
- Serve as the resident engineer at our drive‑unit supplier, ensuring seamless day‑to‑day collaboration.
- Follow up on design changes, prototype builds, tooling status, and validation activities.
- Support root‑cause analysis, quality inspections, and mechanical/electromechanical troubleshooting.
- Verify alignment with technical specifications, tolerances, and DFM/DFA requirements.
- Facilitate clear and continuous communication between supplier engineering teams and our internal development group.
China Market & Supplier Research (2 days/week)
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for key e‑bike system components (motor, battery, HMI, chargers, sensors, etc.).
- Research China’s electronics ecosystem, emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing innovations.
- Conduct competitive benchmarking, teardown analysis, and structured documentation.
- Assess supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, and cost structures.
- Deliver regular reports and insights to support sourcing, technology strategy, and product planning.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong experience in mechatronic design of rotating systems, drivetrains, or electric motor components.
- Experience in electrical/electronic engineering is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, and die casting.
- Experience working with Chinese suppliers or within high‑volume manufacturing environments.
- Ability to work independently, travel within China, and manage on‑site engineering activities.
- Excellent English communication skills; Mandarin is mandatory for supplier interaction.
- International work experience is a plus.
